Hi, I'm Clemence. I'm a rising 9th grader at Miss Porter's Schoolin Farmington, Connecticut, where I'll begin my high school journey in September 2026.

Originally from Shenzhen, China, I've had the extraordinary opportunity to study internationally — first at the Shenzhen Foreign Languages GBA Academy in the IB Middle Years Programme, and then at Stoneleigh-Burnham School in western Massachusetts.

I'm deeply passionate about history, especially the medieval period and the complexities of the Hundred Years' War. Music has been a constant companion — I've been playing piano since I was five and recently achieved ABRSM Grade 8, one of the highest levels of the international exam system.

When I'm not studying or practicing, I love volunteering with Twice as Smart in Greenfield, where I teach English and math to younger students. I also enjoy tennis, baking with friends, and exploring new places.

Curious Cardinals Passion Project

History Research Project

Working with a mentor from Curious Cardinals, I pursue independent history research projects that combine my love for historical inquiry with writing and content creation. My first completed project explored five pioneering women in American history. These passion projects allow me to dive deep into topics that fascinate me and develop my skills as a researcher and storyteller — a foundation I hope to build upon throughout high school. Music & Arts

🎹

ABRSM Grade 8

Piano

I began playing piano at age five and have dedicated myself to mastering this instrument ever since. After years of daily practice and six attempts at progressively higher levels, I achieved ABRSM Grade 8— one of the highest levels in the international exam system by the Royal Academy of Music. The exam requires performing four pieces without stopping for 20 minutes, demanding not just technical skill but deep emotional expression.

💃

Chinese Dance

Dance

Chinese dance has been another avenue for artistic expression. I joined a competitive dance team, embracing the physically demanding training and performance requirements. Through recitals and showcases, I've learned discipline, teamwork, and the joy of sharing cultural heritage through movement.

🎸

School Rock Band

At Stoneleigh-Burnham School, I was an active member of the school's rock band — a wonderful experience that allowed me to explore music beyond classical piano and connect with peers through collaborative performance.

Sports & Fitness

Athletics

🎾

Tennis

Tennis is my primary sport. I love the combination of strategy, agility, and mental focus it requires. I look forward to competing on the courts at Miss Porter's.

🐴

Horseback Riding

During my time at SBS, I explored equestrian activities — building a connection with horses and developing confidence through riding lessons and trail experiences.

I'm excited to explore new athletic opportunities at Miss Porter's School — stay tuned as I discover and pursue new sports throughout my high school years!

Twice as Smart — Greenfield, MA

Volunteer English & Math Tutor

At Twice as Smart, I volunteer to teach English and math to underprivileged children in Greenfield through fun activities like vocabulary games, origami, and hands-on learning. One of my most meaningful experiences was working with a second-grader who showed real improvement in his English skills — seeing his progress reminded me why I love teaching and giving back.

Church Community Tutoring

Weekly Math & English Tutor · Saturdays

Every Saturday, I volunteer at a local church to teach math and English to students ranging from kindergarten to 10th grade. I believe education should be accessible to everyone, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to share my knowledge without requiring students to pay.
